April 2026  :  Minimalism

Minimalism

Minimalist photography is a style focused on extreme simplicity, using few elements, clean lines, and ample negative space (empty areas like sky, walls, or water) to create impactful, uncluttered images that highlight a single subject or subtle details, evoking calm or isolation by removing distractions and emphasizing composition, light, and contrast. It's about making deliberate choices to find beauty in sparseness, stripping away the "white noise" to create strong visual statements.

 May 2026  :  Seascapes

Seascapes
seascape is a subgenre of landscape photography focusing on the sea or ocean, capturing its vastness, coastline, waves, and surrounding elements like beaches, cliffs, and marine life, aiming to convey its mood, power, or tranquillity, often using techniques like long exposures to create ethereal water effects or capturing dynamic moments. It's essentially a "view of the sea" captured visually, much like a landscape captures land, with the water being a dominant subject.

 June 2026 : Silhouetted/Shadows

Silhouettes / Shadows
Silhouette photography is a wonderful way to convey drama, mystery, emotion and mood in a picture. A silhouette is defined as a view of an object or a scene consisting of the outline and a featureless interior, with the silhouetted object usually being black.
A shadow is the contour created when an object or person blocks rays of light from reaching a surface. The shape of a shadow changes based on its relationship with its light source. The distance, angle, and size of the source work together to determine the intensity, form, and scale of the shadow

 July 2026 : Humour - Whimsy

Humour - Whimsy
Humour and whimsy in photography are defined as the use of playful, quaint, or fanciful elements to evoke amusement, curiosity, or a sense of wonder, often by departing from reality or finding irony in everyday life. Whimsy is specifically described as a form of creative expression that combines innocent charm with unexpected juxtapositions, turning mundane scenes into magical or surreal moments.
Key Aspects and Definitions
  • Whimsy: Defined as "playfully quaint or fanciful". It is characterized by a child-like, carefree, and often surreal, or "surreal-light," nature. Whimsical photos often involve magical, quirky, or enchanted themes (e.g., fairy tales, unusual juxtapositions).
  • Humour: In photography, humour is the creation of a smile or laugh, usually through, rather than overt, slapstick jokes, requiring quick, "decisive moments" to capture. It is often achieved through irony, juxtaposition of subjects, or contextual surprises.
  • Combined Elements: Together, these styles often involve "surreal-light" scenes—a departure from reality that remains gentle or amusing, often featuring anthropomorphism or unexpected, charming, or "oddly adorable" subjects.

September 2026 : Close-up and Macro

Close-up and Macro
The definition of a Close-up shot is a camera shot that captures a person or object in a tight, close-range frame. It shows more detail than something like a full shot, medium shot, or wide shot, and is achieved by placing the camera close to the subject or by using a longer camera lens.
Macro Photography is all about showcasing a subject larger than it is in real life — an extreme close-up of something small. A full-frame insect in a five-by-seven-inch photo and a four-inch product shot of a cornflake go well above life-size: both are examples of macro photography.

October 2026 : Abstract Landscapes

Abstract Landscapes
Abstract landscapes an exercise in composition for the sake of art. The real identity of the abstractionist's subject is not important and the result is not intended to be anything. Abstract images are conceived or imagined outside of ‘reality’. They can encompass a huge variety of subject matter, take us out of our comfort zone, make us question what we see, or invite us to enter another realm. In abstract photography, often there aren’t the usual frames of reference for the viewer; they’re not looking at anything immediately recognisable or discernible. This lack of context in which to evaluate an image is one of the reasons why abstract photography can be so challenging and equally enthralling! The subject matter is often implied or suggested rather than overtly and literally presented.
